Authorization Process

Step 1

Receipt & Acknowledgement

Application documentation received from applicant, followed by formal acknowledgement of receipt.

Step 2

Preliminary Assessment

Initial check to determine authorization type and verify documentation completeness.

Step 3

File Creation & Assessment

Registrar creates a file in the Regulatory Authority Information System. Comprehensive technical assessment conducted.

Step 4

Inspection

On-site verification to ensure all requirements are met and highlight any deficiencies requiring corrective measures.

Step 5

Committee Review

Internal Review Committee and Technical Committee evaluate outcomes. Final approval by Board Chairman.

Step 6

Authorization Issuance

Grant of Authorization prepared with decision letter, special conditions, and certificate provided to applicant.

Service Provider

Entities providing dosimetry, maintenance, calibration, and related services.

Transport

Transport of radioactive material or nuclear material.

Registration Categories

For low- to moderate-risk activities (Category IV & V).

Possess and Use (Low Risk)

Activities posing low/moderate risk, specific to Cat IV & V entities.

Broker

Arranging contracts, purchases, sales, or transfers of radioactive material or technology.

Qualified Expert

Specialized consultation and evaluation of radiation equipment and practices.

Permit Categories

Specific operational approvals and import/export activities.

Import / Export

Issued through the Jamaica Customs Agency JSWIFT Platform.

Install & Commission

Receipt, storage, installation, and pre-testing of radiation equipment.

Siting & Construction

Facility design, modification, construction, or demolition.

Temporary Storage

Storage for repatriation, leasing, or safekeeping.
